ACE tests studied thermal hydraulics and chemistry of concrete erosion and fission product release when concrete and prototypic core melt interact. A total of seven (7) large scale, high temperature tests were performed with fully oxidised U-Zr-Stainless steel melt doped with Ba, Sr, La and Ce as oxides. The corium was placed as powder mixture on top of concrete and melted and sustained in-situ by direct electrical heating with vertical tungsten plate electrodes at two opposite walls. The melt temperature and erosion depth were obtained from thermocouple readings in the melt and embedded into concrete slab. Fission product release was measured from the off-gas by taking filter samples and online with mass spectometer. The test apparatus is placed in an enclosure with helium atmosphere. The sidewalls of the test apparatus are cooled with water. The aerosol sampling and online measurements are taken from the off-gas line from the helium gas plenum.
